James Dean died on September 30, 1955, at the age of just 24 in a car crash while driving his Porsche 550 Spyder to a race in Salinas, California. Warner Bros. had barred him from racing during the shooting of Giant, but after finishing his scenes, he took to the track again.

His friend Nick Adams was enlisted for some voice dubbing on Giant, which was released in 1956 and became the last of Dean’s three films as a lead actor. The movie stands as a bittersweet memorial to the young icon who defined rebellious youth on screen.
