The Jellyfish That Rewinds Time
Turritopsis dohrnii, also known as the “immortal jellyfish,” has arguably the most mind-blowing survival trick in the natural world. When injured, aged, or stressed, it can revert its cells to an earlier stage of life, essentially becoming a baby jellyfish again. Then it matures once more, like hitting restart on its biological clock.
This cycle can theoretically repeat forever, making the jellyfish biologically immortal. While they’re not invincible—predators and disease can still kill them—their ability to cheat time makes them a source of scientific fascination and low-key jealousy from every living thing with a use-by date.
