Colorful Volcanoes
Usually, when a volcano erupts, it spews out a mix of gases and molten lava that then settles down the mountainside. But in the photo below, it’s like someone cranked up the saturation! So, what’s with all the vibrant colors? Well, according to geologists, this Icelandic volcano has sulfur in it, which is what creates those amazing hues. Plus, you’ve got the green from moss, the blueish tint from the lava, and reds from iron in the earth, all adding to the natural palette.
There are also sulfurous hot springs on the mountainside, and folks have long believed that warm sulfur springs are good for your health. Whether the springs in this area are actually swimmable is anyone’s guess, but if they were, you can bet someone would’ve invested in developing it into a tourist hotspot!
