31. The Anti-Nosebleed Mask
In the 1940s, to combat nosebleeds caused by dry air or colds, inventors created a bizarre mask that covered your nose with a tiny reservoir of water vapor. It was supposed to keep nasal passages moist all day long.
Users looked like aquatic astronauts wandering the streets. The mask often leaked, soaked glasses, and made breathing a challenge. Instead of stopping nosebleeds, it mostly caused embarrassment and wet clothes. Still, desperate people gave it a try — because when your nose bleeds, you’ll do anything!
