Before air conditioning, people wore bizarre hats filled with frozen gel packs to keep their heads cool during summer. The “Ice-Cream Head Cooler” looked like a plastic bowl strapped tightly to your skull.
While it did chill the wearer, it also caused headaches, condensation drips down the neck, and constant worries about melting ice cream hats. It didn’t become a fashion trend, but it definitely earned a place in the vintage weirdness hall of fame.
