34. The Musical Chair with Built-in Record Player

Invented in the 1950s, this chair had a small record player embedded in the armrest. Sit down, and the chair would play music for you—no need to stand up or find a stereo.

Unfortunately, the sound was tinny and the needle scratched the record easily as users shifted. The chair often played the same song on repeat until you got up. Great idea for lazy music lovers, but more of a novelty than practical furniture. Still, it was an early step toward today’s smart chairs!
