The Run-Down Building
On that same night, Mark watched as Emily parked near a dilapidated building across town. The structure looked abandoned—peeling paint, boarded windows, and flickering lights. Mark stayed back, his eyes fixed on her every step. She seemed jittery, checking behind her as she approached the building, but she never noticed him nearby.
Hidden in the shadows, Mark felt his breath catch in his throat. What kind of place was this, and why had Emily come here? The setting looked more suited for secrecy than safety. Every fiber of his being told him something wasn’t right. His thoughts raced wildly with possibilities, none of them comforting.
