Michael decided to stop by Cathy’s house for a casual visit one afternoon. As soon as she opened the door, his heart dropped. Her face was bruised again, even worse than before. “Mom, what happened?” he asked, embracing her gently, stunned by the repeat injuries.

She looked away, avoiding eye contact, and said nothing at first. The silence between them was heavy. Once inside, Michael noticed she moved more slowly than usual, wincing slightly with every step. It was clear she was in pain, but more than that, it seemed like she was hiding something—something serious.
