Honey-Coated Servants to Attract Flies
To protect Egyptian pharaohs from flies, their servants were coated in honey and placed nearby. The idea was that this sticky layer would attract the insects away from royalty, concentrating them on these human baits.
The method may have been effective, but it came at a cost. These unfortunate servants had to endure swarms of insects and an extremely uncomfortable sensation—all so their pharaoh could sit in peace.
