#41: The Flying Nun (1967-1970)

From 1967 to 1970, Sally Field starred as Sister Bertrille in “The Flying Nun,” a sitcom about a nun who could fly thanks to her lightweight frame and the aerodynamic design of her Cornette. Despite the show’s popularity, Field has expressed discomfort with the role, feeling it undermined her credibility as an actress.

In a 2022 interview, she recalled her reluctance to participate: “I did not want to be dressed as a nun all day long.” Field credits co-star Madeleine Sherwood for encouraging her to study at The Actors Studio, a pivotal step in her journey toward more serious roles.
