Amboina Cone Snail: The Deadly Poisonous Shell

The Amboina Cone Snail is a type of cone snail found in the Pacific and Indian Oceans, and it’s a common shell, especially around Japan. Although it’s only about 10 cm in size, it uses its large, harpoon-like radular tooth to inject venom and prey on fish. Despite its beautiful appearance, it is an extremely dangerous creature.

Its venom affects the nervous system, and being stung can lead to respiratory distress and even death. In Japan, 23 incidents have been reported in the past, with 8 fatalities. Currently, there is no effective antivenom, so if stung, it’s crucial to immediately tie off the affected area and go directly to a hospital.
