Colorful Volcanoes
Typically, when volcanoes erupt, a mixture of gas and molten lava spews out and accumulates on the mountainside. In the photo below, this phenomenon is depicted in vibrant colors. What causes these colors? According to geologists, this Icelandic volcano contains sulfur, which creates the spectacular hues. Furthermore, various natural colors are added, such as the green of moss, the blue of lava, and the red from iron content in the earth.
Halfway up the mountain, there are also sulfuric hot springs, and it has long been believed that warm sulfuric hot springs are good for health. It is uncertain whether the hot springs in this area are actually accessible for humans, but if so, from a business perspective, investments would likely have been made to develop it as a tourist destination.
