The Mur Island Bridge (Austria)

We travel almost every day. Because of that, a lot of investment goes into building different kinds of roads and bridges. While the goal boils down to making travel from point A to point B safer and more convenient, some bridges aim for more than that.

The Murinsel (German for Mur Island), conceived by artist Vito Acconci, is a hybrid bridge-island with a shell-like design that lights up at night. This attracts locals and tourists alike. Accessed from either side of the river, the dome in the center of the bridge offers various attractions. Noteworthy are the recreational facilities, such as an amphitheater, playground, and cafe. The Murinsel allows for a short break before or after crossing the bridge.
