Back in the 1700s, folks were rockin’ some seriously towering hairstyles, and they’d go to crazy lengths to keep those gravity-defying ‘dos in place. Their secret weapon? A heavy-duty pomade made from good ol’ lard (that’s pig fat) or mutton tallow (sheep fat). They’d slather that stuff in their hair just like we use hair gel today.

The downside? No hair washing for days on end! Can you imagine the stench? And sometimes, they’d even get bugs crawling around in there. Talk about gross! Sure, beauty was bold back then—but definitely not clean!
