If you think today’s chemicals are harsh on your hair, just wait. Back in Elizabethan times, women used urine to lighten their locks. The ammonia in it helped to bleach the hair, which was highly desirable.
They would soak their hair in urine and then let the sun do the rest. Even though it might have worked, the method just seems unthinkable today. Once again, the sacrifices made for beauty were astounding.
