Ben Franklin’s Air Baths
Before cold showers became a trend, Ben Franklin swore by “air baths”—sitting naked by an open window every morning to expose his body to fresh air. He believed this practice improved his health and invigorated the spirit, often writing about it in his letters.
Franklin would spend up to an hour in his birthday suit, regardless of temperature. His quirky self-care routine might seem bizarre today, but it was rooted in Enlightenment ideas of health and nature. At the very least, he was ahead of his time in believing in the power of “me time.”
