#6: Shrimp Consumption

Shrimp is America’s favorite seafood, with the average person consuming around 4.6 pounds yearly. The U.S. imports roughly 65% of its shrimp to meet demand, mostly from overseas farms. But here’s the troubling part: some of these imports have been found contaminated with banned chemicals, harmful bacteria, and even cockroaches.

Despite inspections, not all shipments are thoroughly screened, allowing risky products to slip through. While shrimp may be delicious and versatile, imported varieties can have a hidden side of serious health concerns. It’s a seafood staple that warrants a closer look.
