Belt-Pull Chest Expander

This was a set of stretchy belts attached to a door or frame that you’d pull outward using your arms. Common in the early 1900s, it claimed to expand your chest and improve lung capacity—almost like trying to flex your way into having better lungs.

In reality, the belts lost elasticity fast and often snapped during use, smacking users in the face or chest. Some early versions used leather straps that frayed dangerously. While resistance bands are common today, these early iterations were closer to medieval slingshots than fitness tools.
