IF I HAD YOUR FACE

At first glance, this work by Dain Yoon seems reminiscent of the opening sequence of the sitcom The Brady Bunch – but a closer look reveals a profound symbolism. Her face is divided into nine squares, in each of which she portrays distinctly different emotions: anger, sadness, joy, betrayal…

Each square represents the diverse emotions women face while trying to gain a foothold in a patriarchal society. In addition to the striking face paint, her outfit stands out: the red scarf and black coat give the work a touch of elegance, which enhances the message rather than overshadowing it.
