Breathing in the Present
Jamie paused on the front step, taking a long, deep breath to ground himself. The scent of fresh-cut grass, blooming flowers, and a distant hint of something cooking in the kitchen filled the air. These small, familiar details reminded him of home, but they also pointed to how much time had passed since he’d last stood here.
Though comforting, the smells and sounds seemed to echo how much had changed in his absence. Life had gone on without him, and now he was expected to step back into it as if nothing had happened. The challenge would be figuring out where—and how—he now belonged.
