Bone Grubber
In grimy Victorian cities, bone grubbers earned a meager living by scavenging discarded bones from butchers and city dumps. These bones were valuable raw materials for glue, fertilizer, and other industrial products. The job was filthy and hazardous, exposing workers to foul smells, disease, and rats.
Despite these conditions, bone grubbers played an important role in recycling waste during an era before modern sanitation and waste management. The rise of industrial regulations and waste processing facilities eventually put an end to this dirty but necessary occupation.
