The Boneyard

The United States invests heavily in its military, but what happens when that equipment retires? In Tucson, Arizona, “The Boneyard” serves as the final destination for countless decommissioned planes. Captured from a drone, this aerial image reveals an almost unbelievable concentration of aircraft, stretching out in every direction. These machines are either stripped for parts or recycled into new roles, making this both a strategic storage site and a graveyard for once-mighty machines.

Over 4,000 different aircraft rest in this vast field, making it the largest military aircraft storage center in the world. Operating since the end of World War II, The Boneyard preserves decades of military history. It’s a sight rarely seen by the public, and from the sky, the scale is overwhelming. What looks like an abandoned lot is actually a carefully organized archive of aviation evolution.
