They’d chow down on chalk and slap it on their faces to look pale

Victorian women were so hung up on looking pale that they’d actually eat chalk. This would make their lips whiter and give ’em that ghostly pallor, which was considered beautiful back then. They’d also dust their faces with chalk powder to really nail that look.

What they didn’t realize was how toxic and addictive this habit could be. This whole beauty thing came at a steep price, with side effects that were anything but glamorous. Luckily, this trend faded out eventually.
