Before she could face Steve, the officers ran through several practice rounds with her. Officer Davis pretended to be Steve, throwing questions and responses her way. “Stay calm,” he reminded her. “Stick to the plan and guide the conversation toward the ring without raising suspicion.”
Melissa repeated her lines, adjusting her tone, working through the nerves. Each round brought new possibilities—what if he denied everything? What if he became angry? They walked through each scenario, fine-tuning her words. The role-play felt awkward at first, but she knew these rehearsals could mean the difference between success and failure.
