Joachim Gauck & Daniela Schadt
Joachim Gauck is particularly well-known in Germany, mainly due to his term as Federal President from 2012 to 2017. Before that, he made a name for himself through his involvement in the former GDR (East Germany). His commitment helped to accelerate German reunification in 1990. Although he has now retired from active politics, he remains active in discussions about his experiences in East Germany and his commitment, which has earned him much recognition, including from former Chancellor Angela Merkel.
In his personal life, Gauck has been in a relationship with Daniela Schadt since 2000. She worked as a journalist and was with a newspaper for a long time before Gauck became Federal President. Although many referred to her as “First Lady,” Gauck had been married to his childhood sweetheart, Gerhild Radtke, since 1959, but they separated in 1991.
