Soldiers’ Teeth Were Used to Make Dentures
In the 1800s, dentures made from real human teeth were considered the best option for replacing lost teeth—especially for the wealthy. After battles like Waterloo, scavengers would collect teeth from fallen soldiers and sell them to dentists. These gruesome relics were known as “Waterloo teeth.”
The thought of using a dead soldier’s tooth today is horrifying, but at the time, it was just business. For the rich, a mouth full of someone else’s teeth was better than none at all.
