When that salty craving hits, it can be so tempting to grab a bag of chips or some crunchy pretzels. But as you might have guessed, the very thing that makes potato chips so darn delicious is also what makes them so bad for you – especially if you’re over 60. These snacks are loaded with sodium to give them that flavor we crave. And as we’re learning, too much sodium is seriously bad news for your health.

Sodium puts a strain on your circulatory system and can lead to fluid retention. It can also contribute to high blood pressure, heart disease, and kidney problems. You’re better off reaching for nuts or some fruit instead.
