Aiguille du Midi (France)
The Aiguille du Midi is a mountain in the Mont Blanc massif of the French Alps, and its name means “Needle of the Mid-day.” This name comes from the fact that at noon, the sun is positioned at the top, making it look like the hand of a clock. Near the summit of this mountain, there’s a short bridge that offers a spectacular 360-degree view, making it a popular spot for many tourists. Reaching the summit, which might seem like the preserve of only mountaineers, is surprisingly easy – just a 20-minute cable car ride from the town at the foot of the mountain.
Therefore, you don’t need any special equipment; just basic cold weather gear is enough to enjoy the stunning scenery. The hut at the summit also features a glass-floored observation deck. If you can overcome your fear, you’ll experience the sensation of floating in the air.
