Island of Solitude

It’s often said that “no man is an island,” but Hub Island, also known as “Just Room Enough Island,” might just be the exception. This tiny island, located in New York, is only about 3,300 square feet, and was purchased by the Sizeland family in the 1950s. While it likely has electricity, its narrowness is astonishing.

The family chose this island as a vacation getaway, adding a house, a tree, and a beach. It’s said that the reason wasn’t the lack of space, but the expense! Jokes abound that “one wrong step and you’re swimming.” This photo reflects the allure and reality of isolated living.
