Chamber Pots Replaced Toilets

Centuries ago, houses didn’t have bathrooms, so people kept a chamber pot near the bed for nighttime emergencies. In the morning, they either emptied it themselves or a servant took care of it.

Convenient, sure, but the smell was unbearable, especially with full pots sitting in the bedrooms all night. Hygiene standards were incredibly low, but it was just a part of daily life back then.
