A humble home
At last, they arrived at a modest home that seemed entirely unremarkable. It was the kind of place Carter could have easily imagined himself living in, simple and plain. The girl climbed out of the truck without a word, gave him a brief “thank you,” and slammed the door behind her, leaving Carter alone in the truck.
He stayed parked for a moment longer, watching as the girl made her way toward the front door. He waited until she had disappeared inside, though he couldn’t make out who had opened the door to let her in, as the figure remained hidden from view.
