Police speeding past
Around four in the morning, Carter was jolted awake by the sound of police sirens racing down the highway. He had chosen to sleep in his truck parked on the side of the road, so every noise from the outside was amplified.
Normally, Carter could sleep through just about anything, but the blaring sirens and the unmistakable roar of ten police cars speeding by were impossible to ignore. The noise seemed to go on forever, drowning out everything else and keeping him awake long after the sirens faded.
