Winston Churchill’s Nap in a Suit
British Prime Minister Winston Churchill had a sacred daily ritual: a two-hour nap in the middle of the workday—always in full formal attire. He’d retire to bed in his three-piece suit, set alarms, and wake refreshed to wage war or write speeches. Even during World War II, he scheduled his “power nap” like a battlefield strategy.
Churchill claimed the nap gave him “two days in one,” boosting productivity and decision-making. Staff were trained not to disturb him, and even allied generals learned to wait if “Nap Time” was in session. Unlike today’s sleep-shaming hustle culture, Churchill made napping a sign of command—not laziness. It was the most stylish siesta in history.
