16. The Man Candle (Mandles)

Someone noticed that traditional candles smelled like flowers and desserts—and decided men deserved candles that smelled like bacon, sawdust, or freshly cut grass. Thus, the “Man Candle” was born. It started as a novelty gift concept but ended up selling successfully online and through gift shops.

The gendering of scents seemed ridiculous to many, but that only added to the appeal. Gag or not, Mandles became popular among those seeking weird gifts for Father’s Day or bachelor pads. Sometimes all it takes is flipping a stereotype on its head—and adding the scent of beer and leather.
