CATWOMAN
Selina Kyle, also known as Catwoman, is one of the most distinctive figures in the Batman universe: the grey cat with the whip who oscillates between thief, anti-heroine, and hidden romantic interest. On screen, she’s journeyed through the decades, from Julie Newmar in the ’60s to Zoë Kravitz in *The Batman* (2022).
However, she achieved her greatest cult popularity through Michelle Pfeiffer’s portrayal in *Batman Returns* (1992). Tim Burton’s dark classic presented Catwoman as a shattered seamstress who, after a near-death experience, transforms into a black leather-clad thief with deadly charm. Pfeiffer’s performance – with stark makeup, whip-cracking dialogue, and the legendary scene where she literally “remakes herself from the dead” – forever cemented the character in pop culture. A mix of cruelty and mystery that repeatedly tempts Batman (Michael Keaton) to break his moral code.
