Powder Monkey
In the age of tall ships and naval warfare, powder monkeys were young boys (sometimes as young as 10) who scurried through ships delivering gunpowder during battles. One wrong step meant explosion or death.
They had to be quick, quiet, and brave—often performing under enemy fire. The job was considered heroic, but the risks were staggering. As naval warfare evolved with mechanical systems and better safety, these pint-sized powder carriers became a thing of the past.
