Surprisingly Few Shark Attacks

Sharks are often portrayed in movies as terrifying creatures that attack humans, but in reality, only about 30 out of 500 species actually attack humans. And surprisingly, the global annual number of fatalities caused by sharks is about 6, which is quite low.

In contrast, the number of sharks hunted by humans is far greater, with millions reportedly sacrificed for their fins. The overhunting of sharks, such as the scalloped hammerhead shark found near Japan, is a major reason why they are now listed as endangered species.
