Deadly Fly Species
The tsetse fly is primarily found in sub-Saharan Africa and is known for its blood-feeding habits. If this fly carries the parasite Trypanosoma, humans can contract a severe illness called “African sleeping sickness.”
This disease disrupts sleep patterns and can eventually lead to a coma and death. The mortality rate is particularly high in areas with limited access to healthcare, with thousands of victims annually in some countries, such as Congo. Insect repellent in outdoor settings is the most crucial preventive measure.
