The Real “Vampire”

The common vampire bat is known as the only animal on Earth that survives solely on blood. Its unique ecology is even said to have been the model for the Dracula legend. Despite its small size, when hungry, it can consume more than twice its body weight in blood.

These bats do not feed alone but in groups, so if humans are attacked, their lives could be in danger. Especially at their most numerous, a swarm of over 1,000 bats can be active. There is also a high risk of contracting infectious diseases such as rabies through their bites, making them a very dangerous presence.
