Snails Carrying Parasites

What might seem like a harmless snail actually harbors a dangerous parasite known as “Angiostrongylus cantonensis” (rat lungworm). Infection with this parasite can cause severe damage to the brain and spinal cord, and with no established cure, it is truly terrifying.

Eating unwashed raw vegetables, in particular, can lead to ingesting mucus from tiny snails or slugs. While rare in Japan, this infection requires caution in tropical regions. Don’t be fooled by appearances; sufficient vigilance is necessary.
