A Gift She’ll Never Forget

In film productions and documentaries, crocodiles and alligators are often portrayed as dangerous and fearsome animals, which is true given their natural instincts and physical characteristics. Despite this depiction and the real dangers these animals can pose, there are still people, especially in the Northern Territory of Australia, who choose to keep young crocodiles as pets. These unusual pets are then sometimes housed in swimming pools, which is certainly not for everyone. The fascination of some for these prehistoric-looking creatures is great, even if the majority of the population views such exotic pets rather critically.

A gift can often be a loving gesture or a sign of appreciation, but sometimes it serves as a gag gift, which in one particular case led to a rather humorous situation. An exemplary photo shows a crocodile playfully adorned with a pretty pearl necklace to make it “gift-ready.” Despite the tongue-in-cheek attempt to visually enhance the reptile, the recipient’s reaction was probably less than enthusiastic. This situation sheds light on the sometimes-curious world of pet ownership and gives hope that the pet store, should the gift be returned, follows a customer-friendly return policy.
