Soldiers’ Teeth Were Used to Make Dentures
In the 19th century, dentures made from real human teeth were considered the best solution for tooth loss – especially among the wealthy. After battles like Waterloo, looters collected teeth from fallen soldiers and sold them to dentists. These macabre trophies became known as “Waterloo teeth.”
Today, the thought of wearing a dead soldier’s teeth in your mouth is horrifying – but back then, it was simply business. For the rich, a mouth full of someone else’s teeth was better than none at all.
