Believe it or not, in parts of Japan and Southeast Asia, black teeth were once considered the height of beauty! People would actually paint their teeth with a special lacquer that doubled as a preservative against cavities and decay.
While it might look a bit odd or even creepy to modern eyes, back then, blackened teeth symbolized health, elegance, and maturity. The tradition has largely faded away, but you can still find it practiced in a few small communities today.
