She whispered in disbelief
Martha’s breath caught in her throat as she backed away from the box. “It can’t be,” she whispered, her voice thin with disbelief. What she had seen defied everything she thought she knew. George gave her a solemn nod, confirming her worst suspicion. “It’s not a snake,” he said quietly, his eyes locked on hers with the weight of truth.
She inched forward again, fear now mingling with deep curiosity. “Then what is it?” she asked, her voice trembling. George didn’t answer right away. He exchanged a glance with the rest of the team before turning back to her. “It’s something much rarer,” he said gravely. Martha felt a chill trickle down her spine. “Tell me,” she demanded. “I need to know what’s been in my home.”
