Jake had to leave his phone number with the police, but he didn’t mind. He was just relieved they let him go without issue. Before leaving, he explained everything—what he had found, what he had touched—so there’d be no confusion if his fingerprints turned up on the car or the suitcases.
Even after stepping outside, his adrenaline hadn’t worn off. Heart still racing, he hurried home.
