Smiling Secrets

I didn’t hear Alan approach until his voice startled me from behind. “Caught you, huh?” he said with a raised brow and a half-smile, amusement dancing in his eyes. I turned around, flustered and ready to apologize, but he didn’t seem angry. Instead, his posture was relaxed, as if he had expected this moment all along.

I began to stammer out an explanation, but Alan waved it off casually. “Just a little personal project,” he said, offering only vague details. “Everyone needs a little mystery in life.” His tone was playful, yet protective. It left me more intrigued than ever, even though I knew pressing for more would likely push him away.
