Old-fashioned hygiene practices that are anything but clean
Back in the early 1900s, the hunt was always on for new beauty tricks – with some pretty shocking results, TBH. One of the weirder ones? Using X-rays to zap away unwanted hair. At the time, it was seen as a quick and totally cutting-edge solution, and loads of people were happy to sit in front of those radiation machines for a few minutes to get silky smooth skin.
Sadly, nobody clocked how dangerous it really was back then. Later down the line, loads of people ended up with radiation burns, ulcers, or even cancer. It’s a sobering reminder that not every beauty innovation ages well – and makes you wonder what today’s trends will have future generations gasping.
