Emma Hack, the Australian body painting artist from Adelaide, knows how to transform bodies into their surroundings like no other. Her style, developed in the early 2000s, is based on the inspiration of designer Florence Broadhurst’s ornaments – especially her colorful wallpapers, which are reflected in Hack’s paintings.

Hack achieved international fame primarily through her collaboration with the singer Gotye: In the video for “Somebody That You Used To Know,” she transformed him and his partner into living wallpaper patterns, in which body and background merge into one another. A masterpiece of optics that shows: the best art is the one that reminds us how difficult it is to tell truth from illusion.
