#11: The Myth of Escape Hatches

Escape hatches on submarines may sound like a ticket to safety, but their role is mostly symbolic. Each hatch has two doors—one leading into the sub and the other opening to the sea—forming a sealed airlock. Technically, they allow for emergency exits, but their use is limited.

Due to pressure and conditions, a true escape is nearly impossible at extreme depths. Still, they offer reassurance to the crew and fulfill safety requirements. Their presence is more about peace of mind than practicality—a reminder that while the option exists, survival depends on the sub and the team inside.
