A Brother’s Unshakable Instinct

The boy stood firm, his small face set with confusion and certainty as he looked at the baby. “She wouldn’t look like that,” he repeated, his tone unusually mature. His parents tried to soothe him, but the unease in his voice lingered in the air.
Though his mother offered a gentle excuse and ruffled his hair with a smile, the tension didn’t fade. The boy folded his arms and turned away, as if he knew something they didn’t. His father, silent beside them, felt a rising pressure in his chest as the words repeated in his head.
Dismissing the Doubt

Hoping to brush off their son’s claim as the result of stress or imagination, the parents shifted focus to getting the baby home. They moved through the motions, gathering bags and thanking the staff, trying to act like everything was normal.
“She’s just adjusting,” the mother murmured, but the father’s mind was elsewhere. He kept glancing at their son, whose expression hadn’t changed. Though they hoped time would heal the strangeness, his words refused to fade.
